Discover Sailing
$165/person, About 3 hours
A fun, interactive, one-time lesson that is the launching point. This is a more casual lesson for up to two people that have never sailed, or only sailed a few times. The session will be tailored to you, allowing you to learn as much or as little about sailing as you want in the time we have. At a minimum, you will leave the lesson with some knowledge about sailboat anatomy and terminology, points of sail, a few knots, and how to leave and return to the dock. This is an approachable introduction to sailing with a calm, easy sail.
Make Me a Sailor I
$660/person, Four 3-hour sessions
A series of lessons that build upon one another and are designed for up to two students that are ready to commit to learning how to sail. This course includes a copy of the American Sailing Association's book, "Sailing Made Easy," and will cover all the basic sailing skills. We’ll cover things from boat anatomy and terminology, points of sail, and tacking/gybing to finer details about sail trim, line handling, and knots. The course will include a little studying before each session, drills during each session, and some informal quizzing along the way. Sailing is a complex science; there are many facets to learn. The learning objectives here are most of the skills you’ll need to be a competent sailor while underway. We all learn differently and at our own pace. I’ll be sure that you’re “getting it” before moving on to the next skill.
Make Me a Sailor II
$330/person, Two 3-hour sessions
Building on the basics that you learned in Make Me a Sailor I, these sessions teach you the skills to be able to take out a small sailboat on your own. We’ll keep learning from “Sailing Made Easy” and take a few pages from the ASA 103 book, “Coastal Cruising Made Easy.” We’ll dive into docking with an outboard, learn more about the wind and sail trim, anchoring, and learn about navigation and using a VHF radio.
Make Me a Sailor III - Big Boat
$330/person, Two 3-hour sessions
These lessons take things to the next level, moving up to a larger 28’ vessel with a few important differences. You’ll learn how to handle and dock a boat with an inboard motor, how to control larger sails with winches, clutches, and furling gear, and also learn about the electrical system and the propulsion system on a larger boat.
